Here Are Your Saturday Links

by Ken Fang on January 2, 2010

Let’s do some linkage on this snowy Saturday in the Northeast. I hope it’s warm where you’re reading this. This rotating snowstorm that’s hovering over New England is going to continue all weekend and it kind of reminds me of the Donner Party when a snowstorm kept falling over the Nevada-California border. Luckily, I won’t have to resort to cannibalism this weekend, but the snow is enough to make one stir crazy.

Anyway, on that bright note, let’s move to the linkage.

We’ll start with Ken Schott of the Schenectady Gazette who has the NFL Week 17 schedule for a local radio station.

Jim Williams of the Washington Examiner says a wild NFL Week 17 has the potential to be a boon for the networks.

Barry Horn of the Dallas Morning News would have preferred not to watch last night’s Sugar Bowl.

In his Saturday column, Barry looks forward and backward at the sports media.

David Barron of the Houston Chronicle looks at former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach’s first public comments on ESPN yesterday.

Michael David Smith at Fanhouse has the video of the rather Leach strange interview.

Writing for the Huffington Post, University of British Columbia Associate Professor of Journalism Joe Cutbirth says ESPN does not come off smelling like a rose in the Mike Leach situation.

Tom Hoffarth of the Los Angeles Daily News looks at the week in blogging.

Brian Lowry of Variety writes that ESPN is ready for even further growth, if that’s possible.

Paige Albiniak of Broadcasting & Cable looks at TMZ Sports which will launch sometime this year.

The Sports Media Watch reviews his 2009 predictions.

Chris Byrne at the Eye on Sports Media links you to Brian Billick’s Match Game appearance that was referenced during last night’s Sugar Bowl.

Joe Favorito looks at some interesting branding stunts.

Elizabeth Merrill at ESPN.com has a fascinating article on blimp pilots who help get the great overhead shots that are now standard at sports events.

I’ll end it there for now. I’ll be back with some news if it warrants.
