I’m just dragging today. But I’ll do links now.
We’ll start with a story that broke last night. Deadspin and its parent company, Gawker, is being sued, but not by ESPN, but by Sean Salisbury, who had been threatening a lawsuit during a strange exchange of e-mails that site editor A.J. Daulerio published last month. All this in regards to some stories Deadspin reported regarding a woman and Salisbury, something that the former ESPN analyst denies. Danny Gallagher of the McKinney (TX) Courier-Gazette is the one who broke the story on Friday. This may be just the start of a series of litigation for Deadspin/Gawker. We’ll see.
Also breaking today, ESPN analyst Bob Griese is in a bit of hot water for saying NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya was “out getting a taco” during today’s Minnesota-Ohio State game as Deadspin duly notes. Strange week in the sports media.
Jim Utter of the Charlotte (NC) Observer says Griese has apologized.
Before Griese made his dumb comment, Lee Corso said Arkansas “shot its wad” on College Gameday eliciting plenty of laughter from his comrades.
Liz Sadler in the New York Post notes that the 22 year old production assistant who had a tryst with ESPN Baseball Tonight analyst Steve Phillips filed and then withdrew a restraining order against him in September as part of a settlement. Thanks to the Big Lead for the link.
One other story that came from the Steve Phillips affair while Deadspin went all-nuclear on ESPN, Will Brinson of Fanhouse reports that ESPN executive Kate Lacey confirms her affair with another ESPN exec. Wow.
