I've been hearing a lot about possible synergy between WBZ-FM and WBZ-TV. What I haven't heard a lot about is the possible synergy between WBZ-FM and WBZ-AM. Could the stations add sports news announcers for each part of the day that could appear on both stations. When WBZ-FM, starts it's sports news, could they mention that to hear standard breaking news, tune into Newsradio 1030? Could WBZ-AM's sports reports advertise that for continuous sports and sports talk tune into "98.5 Boston's Sports Hub". Thse are the kinds of things that I'd like to see.

I've been PRAYING for a viable alternative to WEEI for the longest time. I listen to ESPN890 in the morning because the morning show on EEI doesn't talk sports- if I wanted political rants, I'd listen to almost any other talk show on RKO or TTK. But ESPN's afternoon show is frequently brutal to listen to, forcing me back to EEI if I want to hear sports talk.

The one thing that WEEI does do well is bring in guests from various sports who know their sport and can convey that to the audience. If WBZ-FM can do that as well, then in my opinion, they'll have a legit shot.

The thing that does scare me about BZ though is the presence of Mr. Felger. His inability (or maybe reluctance) to acknowledge a differing point of view is maddening. He's not always right and therefore, not always worth listening to. I worry that he will drive away as many listeners as he will draw in.

I remember Chuck from WPRO days and always very enjoyable to listen to. Not only very knowledgeable but fair minded and logical. He would really be a nice addition to WBZ and a nice alternative to the yahoos on EEI

I didn't talk to Chuck about whether he wants to return to sports radio in the area. I would like to think he would.

Good stuff, Ken. I remember occasionally listening to Wilson & Bruno's show on ESPN Radio waaay back in the day (when EEI had ESPN's programming on weekends). Talk about a duo with great on-air chemistry--engaging, entertaining and informative. They'd also have access to so many good guests they never even needed to talk to callers.

There's no question Wilson knows what makes for interesting sportsradio, and it sounds like he still has his pulse on the industry. I couldn't tell reading your piece whether he wants to get back into radio fulltime, but if he does I suggest CBS Radio dial him up ASAP. He would be an ideal evening co-host, which conveniently enough looks like a yet-to-be-filled hole on WBZ-FM's programming schedule.
