Fang’s Bites has learned that Lou Merloni will remain at WEEI. Industry sources say that CBS Radio offered plenty of money to lure him to WBZ-FM/98.5 – The Sports Hub to be Michael Felger’s co-host in the afternoon drive timeslot.
However, to prevent another big name from leaving the station, Entercom came up with the cash to keep Merloni in the fold.
He will continue in his role as a Big Show rotating host and co-host on the Baseball Show. We’ll continue to monitor the story and keep checking back here for updates.
UPDATE, July 26, 6:35 p.m.: My New York spies tell me that CBS Radio wasn’t in favor of bringing Merloni on board to WBZ-FM to join Felger after listening to a demo tape. Apparently, CBS Radio decided to listen to other candidates before deciding on a permanent co-host for Felger.
This could be spin from CBS Radio after reading this story. However, it certainly gives us an interesting twist to the story.
